Project Summary
Hope Centre was established in June, 1997 under Hanoi Disabled Children Save Association The Centre has 02 sites and provides education for 70 children and young people who are suffering from the effects of autism, brain traumas, down, epilepsy, low memory, homeless children (at the age of 3 and 17). The aim of the Hope Centre is to look after, teach and provide vocational training for these children and help them integrate into ordinary social life. They are arranged into 3 special classes where they receive primary lessons and other vocational training classes where they can learn craft, self-service, pre-education skill, rehabilitation and tailing … guided by the Centre’s 17 dedicated staffs.
The Hope Centre was founded by Doctor Do Thuy Nga with the financial supports and contribution from Children‘s Parent Association and Social Charity Organizations. At the moment, the Centre’s operation cost and facilities are very limited, so The Hope Centre always calls for support from social organizations and beneficiaries all over the world.
Proposed activities
Being a volunteer at the Centre, your main activities will include:
- Help the centre to cook, feed and look after children
- Teach songs and playing games with the children
- Join in daily activities with the children including assisting them with exercise
- Help staff with general housework
- Teach English to both local staff & children
Working Hours
The working hour of the Hope Centre is from 08.00am until 04.30pm, Monday to Friday, with a two-hour break for lunch.
Volunteer working hours are followed the working timetable of the local staff who will accompany you during your working time in the Hope Centre, so sometimes you may start work later and finish earlier than the Centre working time.
Resources
Resources are adequate but any teaching resources you could bring along (toys, books, magazines, listening cassettes and crafts materials, for example) would be very welcome.
