Project Summary

Alpineviet & International Student Association in Vietnam office to gather with some local NGO, local volunteer and Vietnamese student set up the 2 weeks workcamp to go through all over the provinces of Northern mountain provinces started from Viet Tri, Phu Tho to the high mountain isolated village of Sapa/ Laocai provinces and open up to the Southern parts of the country.

After arrive to Hanoi or Hochiminh city the two main gate of the country go through the orientation in the city with some basic Vietnamese lesson, visit some special tourist sites in the city. By the third day you start to travel to the project sites after several hours by bus where volunteer will enjoy the real atmospheres of the locally

Most of the jobs are concentrate to work with orphanage, SOS village and specially the caring centres where caring and giving the primary education to the children who are the Agent Orange victims (The children, whose fathers or grandfathers were exposed (causing chromosomal damage) or who were contaminated from their mother's milk, suffer from a range of difficult conditions.

Activities

Volunteers will spend time with the children and help improving their English,

organizing games and other activities for them,

joining daily activities with the pupils including assisting with exercise,

help redecorating the houses and classrooms, planting vegetable, preparing soil, weeding, planting vegetables and fruit trees, cleaning a fish pond and redecorating the flowers in the garden. Additional activities may include planting trees, moving bricks for construction, collecting garbage and playing with the children or exchanging with local volunteers or farmers cleaning the area. Volunteers will also join the families to get closer to the children's life and to build up wider horizon for the children and encourage them to learn better for brighter future, helping staff with general housework,

Working Hours

The working hour of school is from 8.00 am until 5.00pm Monday to Friday, with a two hour break for lunch, in some other day you may be asked for the help the child to prepare the home works in the everning

Resources

Some of the center are adequate but most of them are very simple and basic, any teaching resources you could bring along (toys, books, magazines, listening cassettes and crafts materials, for example) would be very welcome
